During the month of June, I will be working at the Audiotheque Subtropics studios on Miami Beach to create the electronics for a new piece being written for the Chicago based Fonoma Consort ensemble. The work for soprano, flute, percussion and electronics will be premiered at the visiones sonoras festival in Morelia, Mexico in October
I have been in residence at the MacDowell Colony from April 28 leaving June 2. During that time I completed a new work for the L’ensemble Suono Sacro based in Assisi, Italy. The work for flute, harp, and string quintet will be premiered on July 17 as part of the Assisi Suono Sacro Festival. Also while in residence, I began a work for the Neuvo Ensemble de Segovia (the New Ensemble from Segovia) for alto flute, bass clarinet, percussion, and piano to be premiered November 15 in Madrid, Spain as part of the COMA Festival.
On April 11, I will be conducting my work the Distant Wind for clarinet and orchestra as part of the Pomeranian Clarinet Festival being held in Szczecin, Poland. The soloist will be Woytek Mrozek with the Szczecin Philharmonic – Mieczyslaw Karlowicz Memorial Symphony Orchestra. I will also be lecturing at the conservatory and the music academy in Szczecin during my visit as well.
This week the Miami Symphony Orchestra will be premiering a new version of my work Celestial Voices for 2 contrabasses and orchestra. The performances on April 5 and 6 will feature bassists Luis Gomez-Imbert and Jeff Bradetich. This performance is part of my work as composer in residence with the orchestra which includes advising the artistic director Eduardo Marturet as well as creating new works for the orchestra.
