This coming spring my activities include premieres, lectures, an artist residency and the related travel. First of all two new works are receiving world premieres. The first at the Miami International Guitar Festival with guitarist Federico Bonacossa in February followed by a new work for trumpet and amplified resonating bodies for Andrew Kozar at the New Music Miami Festival in April.
Also in February the Malaga Philharmonic will be recording 4 works for a new album, 3 of the works featuring virtuoso soloists Cristina Valdes, Jennifer Choi, and Fernando Dominguez.
In addition to lectures in the US, I will be back in Havana this April participating as guest composer and master artist for the Composition Prize Casa de las Americas and the related Latin American Composition and Performance Workshop.
Later that month I will head back to the island of Gotland off the coast of Sweden and the Visby International Centre for Composers for a 3 week residency where I will continue working on the Knight Foundation Arts Challenge funded evening long interdisciplinary work, a rising tide.
The work which includes electronics, video, movement, and an ensemble of instrumentalists and vocalists, is scheduled for premiere in the spring of 2018 at the Faena Art Forum on Miami Beach. Faena Art is assisting with the funding of the work and providing other support as well. The multifaceted installation/performance work is a collaboration with visual artist Jacek Kolasinski, architect and designer John Stuart, choreographer Augusto Soledade, and poet Campbell McGrath.
