LATIN GRAMMY NOMINATION

Orlando Jacinto Garcia’s work cuatro asimetrias (4 asymmetries) was nominated for a 2009 Latin Grammy in the Best Classical Contemporary Composition category (more). The work was written for and recorded by the Asturias based entrequatre guitar quartet and is included on Garcia’s solo CD temporal, released by Innova Records (see below).


NEW CD RELEASES

sonidos cubanos a CD featuring the NODUS Ensemble performing music by Cuban composers with works by Tania Leon, Sergio Barroso, Ileana Perez Velazquez and Garcia's silencios imaginados and viento nocturno. Released in May 2010 on Innova Recordings.

temporal, my 5th solo CD album was released in the fall of 2008 in digital download version by Innova Recordings. The CD album includes recordings of my music by several excellent performers including cellist Madeleine Shapiro, clarinetist Paul Green, glass harmonica virtuoso Thomas Bloch, and the Asturias, Spain based entrequatre guitar quartet. Works with and without electronics are included. The album and single cuts are available on iTunes, Rhapsody, and numerous other download sites. America a CD featuring flutist Andrea Ceccomori and pianist Elitza Harbova includes my work Music for Italy. Released Fall 2008 on the VDM label in Italy; works by Browning, Ziporyn, Williams, Hoffman, among others. More

universo paralelo #3 and #4 for chamber ensemble, electronics, and video being premiered by the NODUS Ensemble at the Cervantino Festival in Guanajuato, Mexico on October 22 and 23, 2010. With video images by Eric Goldemberg/Veronica Lachberg, and John Stuart.

In Memoriam Earle Brown for the Miami Symphony Orchestra Eduardo Marturet artistic director conducting, premiere February 12 and 13, 2011 in Miami, FL.


Selected performances of new/recent works in 2009 - 2010

universo paralelo #1 premiered 11/6/09 by the NODUS Ensemble at the International Contemporary Classical Music Festival in Lima, Peru - performance at FIU scheduled for 1/21. The work for electronics, soprano, clarinet, viola, and piano, includes video images by Jacek Kolasinski.

After Life created for Paula Matthusen and the FLEA laptop ensemble performed by the ensemble in November, December and January 2010. The work includes Max programming by Paula Matthusen and video images by Jacek Kolasinski.

catedral de cristal for fixed media (electronics) was created as part of an interdisciplinary installation with visual artist Bill Burke and video maker Jacek Kolasinski. The opening for the work took place January 9, 2010 at the Art Center South Florida (ACSF) in Miami Beach, FL. More

universo paralelo #2 for clarinet, electronics, and video premiered in March 2010 at the Spring in Havana Festival. The work includes video images by Jacek Kolasinski and Daniel Viñoly.

Dreaming Amazonia performed in Bahia, Brazil April 2010 and at the Florida Dance Festival in Tampa, FL featuring the Brazz Dance Company (see above).


For the 2008 - 2009 season important performances included:

after humans written for cellist Madeleine Shapiro for cello, electronics, and video with video images by Jacek Kolasinski premiered 10/22/08 at the Chelsea Museum in NYC as part of the Electronic Music Foundation's Ear to the Earth Festival. More

cajas sonoras (sonic boxes) for guitar ensemble written for guitarist Arturo Tallini; premiered at the International Guitar Festival in (Monterotondo) Rome on 11/30/08.

La interseccion de tres mundos imaginarios for flute, clarinet, violin, cello, piano, and percussion written for the Dedalo Ensemble; premiered 2/14/09 in Brescia, Italy.

Dreaming Amazonia an interdisciplinary 60 minute work for dance, electronic music, and video, was created with choreographer Augusto Soledade for his Brazz Dance Theater; premiered April 10-11, 2009 at the Colony Theater in Miami Beach, FL. The work includes video images by Jacek Kolasinski.

Transcending Time a 75 minute video opera premiered at the Biennale in Zagreb, Croatia April 22, 2009. The work for electronics, 5 singers and 14 member chamber orchestra, includes video images by John Stuart and Jacek Kolasinski and poetry by MacArthur award winning poet Campbell McGrath. See Review

OTHER RECENT AWARDS

2010 International Computer Music Conference selected la catedral de cristal the glass cathedral (electronics) for presentation at the festival out of 1,700 submissions. The work was presented with choreography by dancer Caitlin Marz.


2009 Miso Musica Viva Festival Portugal selected Transcending Time (electronics) for presentation in the festival out of 190 submissions from 39 countries.

2008 ZMF NEW MUSIC COMPOSITION CONTEST FINALIST
madera sonora for solo marimba was one of 21 finalists from over 150 submissions to the ZMF New Music Composition Contest. Premiere TBA.

2007 NEW ARIEL COMPOSITION COMPETITION WINNER
oscurecimiento gradual received 2nd place in the 2007 New Ariel piano composition competition from over 250 works submitted. In addition to a cash prize the work will be recorded by pianist Jeffrey Jacob for release on Capstone Records.

2006 NOISE INTERNATIONAL CALL FOR SCORES WINNER
The San Diego based Noise ensemble selected el silencio despues de la lluvia for flute and guitar as one of 4 winners from over 200 submissions. Part of the award included a performance of the work during the SoundOn festival held in La Jolla, CA in June 2007.
