Through some 140 works composed for a wide range of performance genres, many premiered at major festivals and concerts nationally and internationally, and recorded on several respected labels, Orlando Jacinto García has established himself as an important figure in the new music world. The distinctive character of his music has been described as "time suspended - haunting sonic explorations" - qualities he developed from his studies with Morton Feldman among others. Professor of Music at Florida International University, he is the recipient of numerous honors and awards and in demand as a guest composer/lecturer both nationally and abroad.

What's New?

New works of note have been recently premiered or are being premiered in the near future. puentes sonoros for the Sequenza Sur ensemble from Mexico recently received its premiere at the Cervantino Festival in October (see review in Spanish). islas (islands) a new work for Pierre-Yves Artaud's Paris based OFF flute ensemble was premiered in February (click here to hear a recording of the premiere) as well as a new work for piano and percussion for the virtuoso duo Miroglio Aprodu premiered in Arras, France in March.

A new work for cellist Madeleine Shapiro for cello, electronics, and video with video images by Jacek Kolasinski is scheduled for premiere this fall as well as a new work for guitar ensemble and soloist being written for guitarist Arturo Tallini to be premiered in Rome in November. A new work for the Miami Symphony Orchestra is scheduled for premiere February 2009. Garcia's experimental video opera Transcending Time is scheduled for premiere at the Biennale in Zagreb, Croatia in 2009. Also in progress are a new chamber work for the Dedalo Ensemble for premiere in Brescia in the February of 2009 as well as an interdisciplinary work being created with choreographer Augusto Soledade for his Brazz Dance Theater. 2007 NEW ARIEL COMPOSITION COMPETITION WINNER
oscurecimiento gradual received 2nd place in the 2007 New Ariel piano composition competition from over 250 works submitted. In addition to a cash prize the work will be recorded by pianist Jeffrey Jacob for release on Capstone Records.

2006 NOISE INTERNATIONAL CALL FOR SCORES WINNER
The San Diego based Noise ensemble selected el silencio despues de la lluvia for flute and guitar as one of 4 winners from over 200 submissions. Part of the award included a performance of the work during the SoundOn festival held in La Jolla, CA in June 2007.

canciones fragmentadas as part of a NODUS concert at MAM: 06/22/2008 3:00 PM

The NODUS Ensemble bassist Luis Gomez Imbert will be performing canciones fragmentadas (fragmented songs) for solo contrabass as part of a concert being realized at the Miami Art Museum on June 22 at 3:00 PM.

Premiere in Italy of a new work for guitar ensemble: 11/23/2008 12:00 PM

A new work for guitar ensemble and soloist is being premiered at the International Guitar Festival in (Monterotondo) Rome. More information coming soon.

Dedalo Ensemble premieres new work: 02/14/2009 8:00 PM

The Dedalo ensemble will be premiering a new work in Brescia, Italy on February 14 with a subsequent performance in Bergamo on February 21. The work is being written for the ensemble. More information TBA.
