During September and October of 2014 I presented my work and lectures about my music at festivals in Merida (Peninsula Sonora), Morelia (visiones sonoras), and Mexico City (SMME at the CENART), in addition to a portrait concert presented at the CNMAS in Morelia. It was an extremely positive time and I am looking forward to returning in the near future.
I was awarded a Bogliasco Foundation Residency for April – May 2015 to begin working on a new work for 2 violins and orchestra for Igor and Vesna Gruppman. Igor is the concertmaster of the Rotterdam Philharmonic and his wife Vesna is also in the violin section – both are excellent performers. The premiere is tentatively set for 2016/17 with several orchestras and venues in Europe being considered. In addition, the foundation awarded me its Aaron Copland Bogliasco Fellowship in Music which will defray my travel and other expenses to/from and while in Italy.
A new CD with 3 of my orchestra works is being released on Toccata Classics September 1. The new CD titled Auschwitz (they will never be forgotten – nunca se olvidarán) includes the title cut for orchestra and choir as well as Varadero Memories (recuerdos) and In Memoriam Earle Brown both for full orchestra. The CD features celebrated conductor Jose Serebrier and the Malaga Philharmonic with the FIU Concert Choir. To hear excerpts and get more information visit the Toccata Classics web page here
