On December 4th I will be celebrating my 60th birthday year with a retrospective concert and CD signing party taking place at FIU’s CARTA Miami Beach Urban Studios. The event will feature my friends the Amernet string quartet, bassist Luis Gomez Imbert, and guitarist Mesut Ozgen. The evening will start with a pre-concert reception including drinks and hors d’oeuvres followed by a post concert champagne toast and CD signing. The CD Auschwitz (nunca se olvidaran) on Toccata Classics and my most recent will be on sale before and after the concert with proceeds going to fund a scholarship for a talented FIU music composition student. An invitation will be going out soon with RSVP requested. I hope to see many of you there.
I will be presenting lectures on my music and aesthetics at York University on November 11 and the University of Birmingham on November 12 in the UK. From there I will travel to Madrid, Spain for the premiere of my new work pentimento by the Nuevo Ensemble de Segovia at the Real Academia de Bellas Artes on November 15.
During September and October of 2014 I presented my work and lectures about my music at festivals in Merida (Peninsula Sonora), Morelia (visiones sonoras), and Mexico City (SMME at the CENART), in addition to a portrait concert presented at the CNMAS in Morelia. It was an extremely positive time and I am looking forward to returning in the near future.
I was awarded a Bogliasco Foundation Residency for April – May 2015 to begin working on a new work for 2 violins and orchestra for Igor and Vesna Gruppman. Igor is the concertmaster of the Rotterdam Philharmonic and his wife Vesna is also in the violin section – both are excellent performers. The premiere is tentatively set for 2016/17 with several orchestras and venues in Europe being considered. In addition, the foundation awarded me its Aaron Copland Bogliasco Fellowship in Music which will defray my travel and other expenses to/from and while in Italy.
